Day Nine

Man what a letdown yesterday. The atmosphere at SDSU was amazing, too bad the game did not turn out the way everybody wanted.  So yesterdays keys to winning the game were rebounds and free throws, lets look at the stats. While SDSU won the battle of the rebounds 37-32, BYU also shot an amazing 14-24 from behind the arc. Free throws SDSU was 11-16 to BYU 12-14. The biggest stat that was the killer for SDSU was Jimmer's 9 assist. I was amazed watching the cat play. He has skills. I really liked how before the game BYU finishes their shoot around and heads to the locker room. 2 minutes later Jimmer comes off the bench by himself and heads back to the locker room alone to the whole arena booing him. I bet he loved it and did it to fuel his fire. The Show really did put on a show. They did a great job keeping the intensity in the building and doing it rather respectfully. We had some jerk-off student in front of us who kept yelling stupid things about byu, mormons ect. and throwing peanuts at the BYU fans. The SDSU fans around us all kept telling him to stop and be mature, but some kids just don't get it.

The Giants continued their winning ways last night with an 8-3 victory over the bums. Hopefully today we will finally get a look at Brandon Belt who played Defense yesterday and committed an error but didn't get to bat. The Giants play the Dimondbacks again today at 12:10.

After the game I went and had a delicious lunch at URBN with Sarah. On our way there we said we were going to get something new. Once we got there we just couldn't do it. The mash potato pizza is so good we couldn't pass it up.

So after pizza we went to OB to meet up with some friends at a bar called Gallaghers Irish Pub. I will never go to this place again. We were there for close to an hour when the bouncer comes up to us and tells us we had to pay a cover to stay in the bar or leave because they were showing the UFC fights. I have never heard of something so stupid in my life. So we went to Sunshine Company and shot some pool. After that we went to Hamiltons and I had 2 new sours. 1 I didn't like so much. It was the Grand Cru from Brasserie De L'Abbaye Des Rocs. Then I had the Petrus aged ale from Brouwerij Bavik - De Brabandere Sour Ale.

Today we have the Lakers vs Thunder at 11:30 and the Knicks vs. Heat today at 5. I'm going to take the Knicks today +8.5 and the Lakers/Thunder over 201.

I also want to take a minute to congratulate the Clovis High School wrestling team. They became only the 2nd team in California wrestling history to qualify all 14 wrestlers to state. Lead by my boys Zach and Nick Nevills. Next weekend is state and Nick is looking to break Zach record as the heaviest  freshman to place at the tournament. This week after I get the brackets I will do a full breakdown of the tournament.

Day Eight - Game Time Ready!!!!

Today is the day. The biggest day in San Diego college sports history. What's at stake? Revenge of the only blemish on a 27-1. A statement against a team that thinks they are too good for the Mountain West. Proof that Kawhi Lenoard is the top player in the conference and a top 10 draft pick. Most importantly a potential number 1 overall seed in the big dance! The students have been in line since Tuesday. It has been the talk of the town all week. Now it is the time to stop the talking get out on that court and prove that SDSU is the better team. A healthy D......J.......GAY! needs to have a big game to offset the Jimmer. The 3 big keys to this game are simple. Rebounding is the most important. Most people will say it's shutting down Jimmer, I disagree. The kid is a scorer and he is going to get his 43 like he did in January, but 25+ is almost a certainty. I watched the BYU vs Colorado State game on weds. night and Colorado keep it close until the final 10 minute they got slaughtered on the boards. The next key is free throws. BYU is shooting .760 as a team from the line. SDSU is shooting .683 from the charity stripe.  The third key is not to get overwhelmed at the start and play from behind. The Aztecs have made it a habit this year of playing tight the first half and exploding in the 2nd half, with the exception being the last meeting vs the cougars.

My plays today are
SDSU un 140.5
NJ Nets +8.5

Day 1 of the 2011 spring training in the books and the Giants are 1-0 after a 7-6 victory over the Diamondbacks. reigning ROY Buster Posey started right where he left off going 2-3 with a R and 2 RBI. Today we take on the HATED Dodger and BOOOORIBE.

So after many attempt to eat the Beagle Burger at the Regal Beagle, They have been sold out of it the last 3 times I have gone to have it, I finally had one last night and it was awesome. A burger, cheese and special sauce on a sausage roll. The Beagle has turned into one of the most popular beer and sausage spots in San Diego.

Last night while at the Beagle, I had the collaboration beer between Port, Stone and Green Flash called Highway 78. All 3 breweries are located on the 78 so I'm guessing that is where the name is from. It was a scotch ale. I also had a Dutchess sour beer. A good sour, I have had before and will have it again if it is the only sour on tap. Concecration has my heart and I don't think anything will overtake that except I have high expectations for the New Belgium La Folie.

Alright I am off to the game. Fear the Spear and hopefully we are leaving Viejas Arena with a Victory and some respect from the rest of the nation.

I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!

GO AZTECS!!!!!!!!!!!

Day Seven - I See Orange People!!!!!

That's right folks your 2010 WORLD SERIES CHAMPS start spring training games today @ 12:05 vs the Diamondbacks. Man I have been ready for this day since the day after we clinched the title. So my players to watch at spring training is (along with everyone else in baseball) Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, Thomas Neal and Francisco Peguero.  Belt was the talk of the minor leagues last season batting a collective .352 in 3 stops up the ladder to the show. Slugging 23 Home Runs, 10 Triples, and stealing 22 bags. He will get playing time at 1st and left. Brandon Crawford needs to raise his .236 avg if he wants to be a September call up. This is my most interesting follow because he is major league ready with the glove but the bat is nowhere close. He needs to really focus in and get that bat going because he is the heir to SS in the next 2 years. Thomas Neal will start the season in Fresno playing LF and the everyday starter giving way to Belt a few days a week. (Being that Belt doesn't force his way on the roster). Francisco Peguero is another one who will start the season in the minors but with Torres and Rowand contracts coming up in the next 2 seasons, if Peguero can duplicate his .329, 77 RBI, 40 SB seasons he will be the leader to be the future center fielder of the Giants.
Cy Timmy will be taking the ball today but don't look for him to go more than 2 innings.

So last night we went up to Solana Beach to the Belly Up to see Longstay, Justin Forece, and Terreplane Sun. We arrived late and only saw the last 2 songs from  Terreplane Sun. Very energetic show and stage presence. Justin Forece is a very talented smooth jazz guitarist with great vocals and lyrics.  Then came Longstay, I have seen Longstay two other times. Once and Soda Bar where I was absolutely blown away. Lead by Nik Ewing, who I put in my top 5 musicians in SD. Just did not seem to be into it last night. The energy on stage was flat, they were not meshing well with each other. During certain parts of the show you can see the magic and talent that they have and could posses. This is Longstay last show for a while. From what I've heard Nik, who is also in Lesands and does stuff with The Howls is going on tour with Lesands. Hopefully when they get back Longstay will be revived and ready to show San Diego what they are capable
of being, which is one the best bands in San Diego.

We stopped in Encinitas to have dinner at Encinitas Ale House. Sadly there was no where to sit and we had to get to the show so waiting was not an option. We ended up at Chiefs Burger and Brew in Solana Beach. Good atmosphere with plenty of space and TV's. I had to go with the bacon cheeseburger. I liked the fact that they use big thick strips of bacon. Overall the burger was pretty tasty, I would go back there for a burger before a show, its just had going anywhere in Solana Beach that isn't named Pizza Port.

Album of the day today is Little Dragons - Machine Dream

Day Six

Big Victory last night for the Chupacabras...We started off the season with a 19-1 Victory. I went 2-3 with a walk and 2 runs. Next game is Wednesday at 6. If you have nothing to do come down to OB and have somes beers and watch some hilarious softball.

Didn't get much done yesterday with work and softball, so no food or beer review today. I followed up my 3-0 Tuesday with a nice 0-3 yesterday. I will post another blog around 2 today all on the NBA trade deadline and all its moves. The Accenture match play golf tournament started yesterday and Tiger Woods is already out. After making a clutch putt on 18 to force extra holes, he placed his tee shot in the woods and ended his run at this tournament. My other favorite golfer Nick Watney won his match vs. Anthony Kim 5 and 4. Watney will face #1 seed Lee Westwood today.

Day Five

Already Wednesday. So tonight is the start of our 2nd season together as the Chupacabras the name of my softball team. Our first game is tonight at Robb Field in OB at 8. If you are bored and in OB come check us out.
Had some great food last night at Sushi Deli 1. Fried chicken, sweet potato tempura and rice.

Went 3-0 last night on my basketball plays. Great way to start off the 2nd half of the season. Tonight I am going to mix in a little college and pro.
Wisconsin -3.5
Orlando -11
Air Force +1.5
A big game tonight, I am eager to watch is BYU vs Colorado St. Colorado St has a good team this year and could catch BYU overlooking them, getting ready for the showdown with SDSU. I couldn't find a line on this game this morning but if the Rams are getting more than 4 I would be on it.

Album of the day is The Kills - No Wow.

Day Four

Well back at it today. Sucks going back to work after a nice day off. Spent the day yesterday BBQ'n at my buddies Tim and Cary house in OB. Then went to Tap Room for the Younger and Brewley to watch the Syracuse game.

So there has been so much build up for Pliny the Younger. It is hands down one of the hoppiest and tastiest beers I have ever had, But 8.50 for a 4oz taster is ridiculous. They started sign ups around 3 and by 4 they were sold out. I didn't think it would be that crazy with Hamiltons tapping at 3. I also had a pint of Sanctification and Consecration. Consecration is by far my favorite of the sours. Just so tasty. I recommend getting down to Tap Room before they blow all the Russian River kegs and try some.

Basketball picks today were
Houston -1.5
Lakers -7.5
Celtics -4.5

Carmello Anthony is now a New York Knick. Putting him with Amare is going to do damage in the East but the question is will they land CP3 next off-season to compete with the big 3 in South Beach. Knicks also get Chauncy Billups in the trade which is huge. Finals MVP, All-Star just all around baller with no flash or gimmicks.

Day Three

First off want to say Congrats to the SDSU basketball team breaking into the top 4 National rankings this morning. They also received 3 first pace votes. I also want to thanks for first 2 followers, It means a lot to me.
Today is Presidents Day so I am enjoying a nice Monday off.

Yesterday I had breakfast at Eclipse Chocolat on El Cajon Blvd. It was delicious. I had Chocolate covered bacon, biscuits and gravy and sausage stuffed with Gouda. They have a small plate menu and you get to choose 3 plates for 12 bucks. Great deal def. get a lot of food. For dinner we had the BBQ chicken pizza from Pizza Port OB. continuing the theme of never disappointing this pizza was phenomenaln anytime you are in SD you defiantly need to make a stop at the Port.

Pliny the Younger Russian Rivers triple IPA, one of the most sought after beers each February is being tapped today at 5 at Tap Room. There has been about a dozen tappings of this beer so far this month and none have lasted longer than 2 hours. I believe there is a tapping of PtY at Hamiltons today at 3 as well. I am excited to try this years batch. Tap Room will also be featuring Russian Rivers -ions collection which has a lot of sour beers. Russian River started in Temecula, California as Blind Pig Brewery is now located in Santa Rosa, Ca. They are becoming one of my favorite breweries.

#20 Syracuse will take on #16 Villanova today at 4. Villanova beat the cuse by 11 in January but they are without leading scorer Corey Stokes. I am going to take Syracuse on the road +3.5. If you are in San Diego check out Brewley Pint in Pacific Beach, which is Syracuse headquarters. My other play today will be #2 Kansas taking on unranked Oklahoma State. I will be playing the under 144.5 on this game today. This morning Kansas suspended junior gaurd Tyshawn Taylor. Taylor has started all but 1 game this season for the Jayhawks.

Album of the day today is Cold War Kids - Mine Is Yours. CwK are one of my favorite bands and I am excited to give this album a complete listen.

Day Two

Man that Will Powered IPA was amazing. The growler did not make it through the night. Had a great Burger last night for dinner at Sessions Public in Point Loma. I highly recommend checking that place out for dinner with a great craft beer selection.

SDSU continued there dominating season with a big Victory over Air Force yesterday and are ready for a good week of practice before the showdown of the season and biggest game in SDSU history with BYU Saturday.

NBA All-Star game tonight where a bunch of all stars show off their horrible defensive skills and each team scores 130+ points. I am not a fan of any sports all star games. Daytona 500 was this morning and won by a 20 year old rookie in just his 2nd race. Maybe a fresh face ala cole trickle could be what the sport needs to build some popularity.

Tomorrow is Russian River night at Tap Room and will be tapping one of the last kegs of Pliny the Younger in San Diego. They will also have some of RR sours on tap. Make sure you get there early if you want some of the Younger

Album of the day today is Funeral- by The Arcade Fire. One of the best albums of the decade.

Day One

Welcome to my Blog. Here you will find an in depth look at an mixture of my favorite worlds. Sports, Craft Beers, Music and Food. I hope you all enjoy it.

Today is a day I have been looking forward to for weeks now. I finally get my hands on a growler of Automatic Brewing Co. "Will Powered IPA". This is an Oatmeal IPA. Automatic brewed this beer for a Charity event earlier this month. A review and pictures will be up later today.

This morning we have Notre Dame vs. West Virgina. Notre Dame is trying to continue their hot streak in the brutal  Big East. Notre Dame has ripped off 8 straight in the toughest division in college basketball. We also have the SDSU vs. Air Force game at 11. SDSU better not overlook the Falcons on the road before their big showdown with JFU...errr I mean BYU. The Aztecs need to start fast against the falcons who play a very tight and discipline game.

Todays best bets
Notre Dame +4
St. Johns +3.5
Texas -7

The Album of the Day is Cut Copy - Zonoscope. Each day I will try to feature an Album I will listen to that day. For the next 2 months most will be bands that I will be seeing at Coachella.

Thanks for viewing my blog and I hope you will come back.
